Grassroots. Industry Led.

The Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate is a grassroots, industry led initiative dedicated to accelerating the transition to a zero emissions shipping industry in British Columbia.

About us

The Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate is an industry led initiative dedicated to accelerating the transition to a zero emissions shipping industry in British Columbia.

We recognize that maritime operators are currently facing large regulatory hurdles, both compulsory and voluntary, to reduce emissions with no clear path forward on how to meet these objectives. We believe that bringing industry together helps facilitate the mobilization and implementation of green technologies that will help ship owners and the supporting land based infrastructure get to zero emissions faster.

The intention of the Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate is to bring the right players to the table to help provide solutions and accelerate the implementation of technology through information sharing from previous and current experience, as well as facilitating pilot projects between our members to help them test technology and get in touch with resources they may not have previously thought to tap into. While research projects can be a long term goal, in the short term, our aim is to stay practical and results driven. This includes helping commercialize products offered by local technology and service providers by giving them access to a large member platform and discussion forums.

Climate-driven risks to the global and local economy are already here, and the issues are getting more urgent. It’s time to acknowledge the extraordinary emissions from the shipping industry and accelerate the transition towards a zero emissions industry here in British Columbia.

Learn more about our strategy to create a world-class centre of excellence dedicated to addressing the climate imperative faced by the British Columbia maritime industry and to establish Vancouver as a global-leader in the decarbonization of the maritime and shipping sectors.
