Grassroots. Industry Led.
The Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate is a grassroots, industry-led initiative dedicated to accelerating the transition to a low-carbon maritime industry in British Columbia.
About us
The Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate is an industry led initiative dedicated to accelerating the transition to a zero emissions maritime industry in British Columbia.
We recognize that maritime operators are currently facing large regulatory hurdles, both compulsory and voluntary, to reduce emissions with no clear path forward on how to meet these objectives. We believe that bringing industry together helps facilitate the mobilization and implementation of green technologies that will help ship owners and the supporting land based infrastructure get to zero emissions faster.
The intention of the Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate is to bring the right players to the table to help provide solutions and accelerate the implementation of technology through information sharing from previous and current experience, as well as facilitating pilot projects between our members to help them test technology and get in touch with resources they may not have previously thought to tap into. We are not a research house as there are some great organizations already doing this. Instead, our aim is to stay practical and results driven. This includes developing a data and information hub and helping innovators and solution providers get connected to the incumbent industrial asset and infrastructure owners.
Climate-driven risks to the global and local economy are already here, and the issues are getting more urgent. We can do our part as a maritime industry sector to mitigate the consequences of climate change by collectively accelerating the transition towards a zero emissions industry here in British Columbia.
Learn more about our strategy to create a world-class centre of excellence dedicated to addressing the climate imperative faced by the British Columbia maritime industry and to establish
Vancouver as a global-leader in the decarbonization of the maritime shipping sector.
