Addressing the climate imperative within the maritime industry

Operation Flagship is at the core of the VMCC’s operation and is firmly aligned with our mission to create a climate-focused, world-class centre of excellence for the maritime industry.

Operation Flagship

The VMCC recognizes that the maritime sector in Canada is currently facing headwinds to reduce emissions and believes that bringing industry together will help to facilitate the mobilization and implementation of clean technologies that will help ship owners and the supporting land-based infrastructure get to zero emissions faster.

The heart of VMCC’s operation is to help facilitate the provision of climate solutions and accelerate the implementation of emission reduction solutions through our pilot project program, Operation Flagship. The purpose of these pilot projects is to help ship owners, operators, ports & terminals as well as the supporting land-based infrastructure source innovative and sustainable solutions suited to their operating profile to help them to reduce their GHG emissions or to decarbonize completely.

Embark on pilot projects

The aim of Operation Flagship is to accelerate the adoption of new technologies in our region by demonstrating their effectiveness for our industry, as well as facilitate a cohesive industry conversation to help determine a green shipping strategy specific to our region and possible implementation pathways.

Adoption-at-scale for local technology and service providers is the ultimate goal, and Operation Flagship is the first step in assisting viable solutions get to the next level of commercialization.

Operation Flagship Streams

VMCC recognizes emissions come from more than just local vessels, and therefore Operation Flagship is set up to support innovators in addressing the two types of vessels operating in our jurisdictional waters.
