M.K Anand is currently the Energy and Sustainability Manager for Global Container Terminals leading their decarbonization and climate action efforts. He has over 15 years of engineering experience in sustainable infrastructure having worked in decarbonization and energy planning for First Nation Communities and landmark projects such as the Kitimat Aluminum smelter, Watts Bar nuclear power plant and the Hanford Waste Nuclear Waste Treatment Plant in the US.

Erik Johnston joined Robert Allan Ltd. in 2004 after graduating from the University of British Columbia. Erik holds a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, with Thermofluids Option, and is a registered Professional Engineer in BC.

Erik leads Robert Allan Ltd.’s activities relating to the design of all sizes of workboats for the offshore wind industry. Over the last 15 years Erik’s primary responsibility has been the design and engineering of vessels’ propulsion, machinery, and ships systems. Erik is currently a Project Manager, Team Lead Mechanical Engineering.

Juliana's career journey began in Brazil, where she had the chance to work over two years for the government on pivotal projects related to energy regulation, compliance, and power generation inspection.

Juliana's role at Seaspan Corp is focused on overseeing the implementation of the ESG strategy, ensuring compliance with regulation and reporting standards, and driving Seaspan's sustainability efforts.

Dr. Eleanor Kirtley is the Senior Program Manager for Green Marine, North America’s leading environmental certification for the maritime industry.  She joined the program and opened their West Coast office in 2014.  Before that, Eleanor worked as an ocean engineer for six years at Glosten.  She was a Project Manager and Principal Investigator for vessel traffic and risk assessment studies.  Eleanor serves on the Washington State Board of Pilotage Commissioners and on the Board of Washington Maritime Blue. In 2008, Eleanor completed her PhD in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan and moved to Seattle, Washington.

With more than 30 years business leading and sales experience in the marine, shipbuilding and oil & gas industry - about 15 years ago, in the very early phase of introducing LNG as a marine fuel, Frank Harteveld started his explorations on greenifying the shipping sector.

A strong awareness of the need for creating “cleaner horizons” contributing to a more sustainable society, made Frank to strongly advocate the further introduction of renewable fuels for shipping – all to be based on realistic, but ambitious pathways.

In addition to his current position in Wärtsilä, Frank is representing the company as a member of the board in the SEA-LNG coalition.

Christine Rigby has worked in the air quality and climate change field for 23 years, nearly 19 of which have been spent leading air programs for the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority in Vancouver, Canada.

At the port authority, Christine’s focus is on local, regional and international collaboration, and the development and implementation of emission reduction policies and initiatives that emphasize flexible, results-based approaches. Prior to joining the port authority, Christine spent four years with the British Columbia Ministry of Environment working on air quality related issues.

With 30 years of experience in port, fisheries and environmental management, Jason Scherr is responsible for the overall development and implementation of the environmental sustainability plan, monitoring programs and environmental initiatives at the Port of Prince Rupert. He has led the development of the port’s environmental sustainability plan and carbon strategy. He has recently completed a climate change risk assessment for the port as well as the expansion and commissioning of shore power at Fairview Terminal.  Jason is a member of VMCC’s steering committee and Green Marine’s West Coast Advisory Committee.

Jennifer Kroll is an experienced leader and business strategist with over 22 years of proven success in the public and private sectors.

Jennifer leads the development and implementation of British Columbia’s low carbon fuel policies, the single largest contributor to meeting CleanBC targets. Formerly, Jennifer was the Director of the Innovative Clean Energy Fund, leading on initiatives related to the funding and direction on emerging clean and innovative energy technologies.

John Uhren is Managing Director, Sustainable Finance, at BMO Capital Markets. He leads product development and strategic initiatives across the enterprise, including raising capital and providing sustainable finance opportunities to clients. John is also a member of the Bank’s Energy Transition Group.

Christine VanDerwill is Associate, Partnerships at BMO Radicle. With over a decade of experience in sustainability, Christine supports transportation hubs to engage their value chains to prepare for and thrive in the growing low carbon economy. Working at the nexus of policy and business engagement, she passionately believes that maritime businesses and ports are essential to driving the energy transition and accelerating innovation. Christine holds a MA in International Studies with a concentration in environmental policy from Simon Fraser University (SFU).

He holds a PhD in engineering science from the University of Oxford.

Drawing on 20+ years’ experience in economic development, sustainable cities, green buildings, purpose-driven business, and climate action, Juvarya is currently Senior Advisor with C40 Cities' Green Ports Forum, where she convenes a network of the world’s leading port cities and their ports working to cut emissions in half before 2030. 

Prior to this, from 2010 to 2020, Juvarya helped to write and implement the City of Vancouver's ambitious Greenest City Action Plan and green economy strategy, which stimulated innovation, attracted investment, and transformed Vancouver’s economy to double the number of good, green jobs in the city while reducing carbon emissions. 

Jorge Lobo has been with FortisBC for more than 12 years in areas such as energy efficiency and Renewable Natural Gas project management. For seven years, he led the development of innovative LNG delivery systems for industrial customers including mining, power generation and marine, from initial concept, design and implementation to operation and maintenance.


Jorge leads the teams in charge of LNG Asset Operation and Maintenance, LNG Logistics and Safety, Education and Compliance within the FortisBC Low Carbon Transportation (LCT) group.

Arvind is a Director at Deloitte in our Climate & Sustainability practice and leads the Hydrogen pillar under the energy transition practice for Deloitte Canada. Arvind is currently involved in leading many engagements focussed on helping clients understand and prioritize technologies and fuels adoption for mobility, ports, airports and marine applications including green shipping corridor initiatives. Of particular importance and interest for this session, would be the work that Arvind & the Deloitte team is delivering for Prince Rupert Port Authority to develop a comprehensive carbon plan to meet their 2030/2050 climate targets.

Dr. Patrick Kirchen is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia, where he leads the Thermochemical Energy Conversion Lab. His lab has developed a unique optical engine facility for detailed characterization of alternative fuels and their combustion processes.

He is co-leading the UBC Urban Freight Emissions Program to characterize air quality and GHG emissions from current and future low-carbon intensity fuels through partnerships with freight operators, regulators, and other local stake and rightsholders.
