Blue BC Challenge Launches

PITCH YOUR CLEAN SOLUTION TO VANCOUVER MARITIME CENTRE FOR CLIMATE’S OPERATION FLAGSHIP

Applications Accepted April 27th to June 3rd 2022

Operation Flagship connects ship owners, operators, ports & terminals with emerging technologies and solution providers to help reduce their carbon emissions and decarbonize the maritime sector through accelerated technology adoption.

Under the Blue BC Challenge, North American Innovators are being invited to respond to five distinct challenges

•  End-to-End Electric Power Challenge

•  End-to-End Low-Carbon Intensity Alternative or Renewable Fuels Challenge

•  Port-Based Efficiencies Challenge

•  Deep Sea Shipping Energy Consumption Challenge

•  General Performance Improvements Challenge

The Blue BC Challenge Call gives innovators direct access to high-potential maritime clients and may lead to a future pilot or demonstration project.

Why is Operation Flagship Important?

The maritime sector accounts for almost 5.5% of BC’s annual emissions, 1.2% of Canada’s annual emissions, and 3% of total annual global anthropogenic emissions. Under a business-as-usual scenario, shipping could represent 10% of global GHG emissions by 2050.
Bringing industry together through Operation Flagship will accelerate clean innovation in the sector so it can decarbonize and remain competitive globally.

How the Blue BC Challenge Call will Work

Solution providers submit an application, outlining the key parameters of their solution and how it helps solve one (or more) of the Blue BC Challenges. The applications are pre-screened and sent to Blue BC Adopters for final approval. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present their technology/solution to the participating Blue BC Adopters.

Who Should Apply

Solution providers — both emerging and established companies — with a technology, process or service that can help solve any of the Blue BC Challenges are encouraged to apply. Solution providers must be located in North America and have a product that is TRL 6 (i.e., ready to pilot in an industrial setting) or higher.
