VMCC’s 2nd Year Anniversary
On May 11th, 2023, we celebrated VMCC’s 2nd Year Anniversary at the beautiful Loft at Earl’s Yaletown in Vancouver, British Columbia. Together we celebrated the Vancouver Maritime Center for Climate’s second year of operations. We celebrated this year’s achievements and progress in our many programs and events.
VMCC’s Membership has grown 20% since last year VMCC’s programs and innovations are achieved through regional, national, and international partnerships. These programs include the Operation Flagship, Commercialization Program and the Green Shipping Strategy.
Operation Flagship The Blue BC Challenge ran in April 2023, with over 20 applicants from across North America responding to the call. Fifteen applications were shortlisted, with nine innovators pitching to the Blue BC adopters, a group of 8 maritime asset owners sourcing decarbonization technology through the program, and one project moving towards piloting in 2023/2024.
Green Shipping Strategy Launch This strategy was expanded to include a sector-specific profile of maritime assets, including their carbon footprint, and identify opportunities for investment in order to reach decarbonization targets. With funding from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the Green Shipping strategy was revised to bring additional focus to ports & terminals and alternative fuel supply. This valuable work increases awareness of industry needs and opportunities for support and investment.
This year we held the first annual GreenShip 2022 Conference at the SFU Harbour Center in Vancouver, British Colombia. A total of 164 guests came from across Canada, the USA and Europe to attend this year's only conference in Canada exclusively focused on maritime and shipping transport decarbonization.
Thank you to this year’s event sponsors, Robert Allan Ltd., Saam Towage, Fortis BC, Jotun, Hempel, Voltsafe and HullWiper.
